If you’ve forgotten how big a punch being read to has for kids, you only have to look at Ben and Madi’s faces to be reminded.
Being read to is powerfully engaging. What you can’t see is that Monsters Inc. is playing on the TV. And it’s one of the kids’ favorite movies. Yet they are fully absorbed by being read aloud to, oblivious for the moment to the sights and sounds of the movie.
And in case you’re wondering, Madi had selected the book — Where is God When I’m Scared — long before we decided to watch Monsters Inc.
