A Church with no path to the door.

I don’t know the story of this church building in Hondo, NM.

I took it’s picture while we were on vacation, visiting the iris farm next door. I’d noticed it several times from the highway above. I’m always attracted by church buildings as we travel, and especially by the older ones. The blue roof with the cross on top caught my attention first. Then there’s the character of the plain walls, with the hint of the adobe brick showing through. It seems peaceful sitting there in a pasture.

But that’s the problem. There is no path to the door of this church. In fact, it stands behind a barb wire fence with no gate.

It’s a place where there is no community coming together to share life, to share hope, learning to love and serve each other. I bet there was once, in grander days.

So I’m left to wonder about what happened. And what might cause this to happen to the building where the church I’m part of gathers.

May there always be a well worn path to our door!

Jim,

Your writings are always refreshing to read. They are reflective, insightful, educational and sometimes humorous. This is among the best I have ever read!

I have shared this page with my Elders…and I thank you for the valid and timely reminder of what God expects those of us in His church to do with His church.

Blessings,]

Don
